Last night, Desiree Hartsock shocked us all on the finale of ABC’s The Bachelorette.
She not only extended the final rose to Chris Siegfried, but is also now an engaged woman, knocking our prediction of Brooks Forester coming back or Des choosing runner up Drew Kenney.
Host Chris Harrison phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to chat about the surprising ending. “The overwhelming thought was she’d probably end up alone and if there was somebody, it’d be Brooks coming back, but that obviously didn’t happen.”
Chris says that even Siegfried himself was surprised. “Usually, they don’t know if they’re first or second, there’s usually two guys … but obviously she said goodbye to Drew before their first date even started … And she never told Chris he was the only one … until that proposal when he was literally getting down on one knee, and this was almost a little cruel, when she stopped him because she wanted to let him know he was the only one.”
And despite Des throwing off Chris by interrupting his proposal, Harrison admits: “It may have been the most heartfelt, sincere, beautiful proposal we’ve ever had.”
However, with a beautiful Bachelor proposal always comes the critics. So does Harrison think their love is for real? ”It’s easy to say Chris and Des aren’t going to make it, the odds are against them,” he admits. “But right now, all I can tell you is they are sincerely in love and are going to try to make it work.”
And speaking of being in love, we couldn’t be more excited for the next contestant of ABC’s love journey — Juan Pablo Galavis!
Regarding the upcoming Bachelor, Chris says, ”We were a little shocked he left so early … but I’ve never seen someone get less airtime and get more attention … he was the easiest decision we’ve ever had to name a Bachelor.”
