John Travolta phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest to talk about his latest movie with Robert De Niro, Killing Season, as well as how he spent Father’s Day and why he ended up at a Georgia couple’s wedding earlier this month.
As for Father’s Day, the actor shared he spent a lovely Father’s Day with his family. ”I spent a beautilful day with my kids and wife .We just hung out and went swimming and ate together and laughed. Kelly [Preston] and the kids made me a photo portfolio of me and the kids.”
John’s 13-year-old daughter gave him an even more special gift. “Ella sang me two songs on a CD that I didn’t even know she had this incredible voice and there she is making me cry with this newfound voice.”
Travolta, who took a break from daddy duty to immerse himself in his latest role, explained that Killing Season began as a” script that had actually won the top vote on — in Hollywood, they call it The Blacklist – it’s the best written scripts that haven’t been produced into a movie.”
“We found this and loved it,” John adds. “I wanted Bobby to play opposite me … and he thought it’d be great to do it with me. I chose to play the Serbian because I love doing accents and I like being different characters.”
As for the action-thriller, “It’s a little movie, but it’s very powerful, it’s very effective … It’s kind of an essay on war, but more over an essay on what two people do when they’ve been affected by not just your normal warfare, but if you have criminal activity within that and trying to find relief in what we’ve done so we face each other and we have a mirror image of where we’ve been and who we are.”
And while Travolta’s not acting, you can likely find him flying one of his planes … or for one special Georgia couple, attending your wedding!
So how did the actor end up crashing a wedding that grabbed headlines earlier this month?
“I didn’t know the couple or any of the wedding party, but what happened was I was there for flight training and I saw them all in the bar the night before and we took pictures … and the next day they were all in their get-ups and wanted me to take additional pictures and I couldn’t because I was late to school and I felt so guilty … so I went down and they weren’t there anymore. They were in the back taking formal pictures and I said, ‘You know what? I have to do it for them.’”
