Hailee Steinfeld is the latest actress to take on the iconic role of Juliet in Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet.
The 16-year-old phoned in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest and revealed she had a hand in casting her Romeo, 21-year-old Douglas Booth.
“It was a really exciting process,” the Oscar-nominated actress admits. “I really felt for the story…[our love] had to be believable and there had to be a certain chemistry, so I was happy I could weigh in on [casting him].”
And although she found it easy and enjoyable to cast Douglas as her Romeo, she admits mastering the Shakespearian language wasn’t as easy.
“It is really tricky … because you can’t just go an improvise at any time … [and] it was [hard to memorize].” However, she adds, “Once you’ve spent enough time with it, you sort of forget it’s Shakespeare.”
Hailee admits the experience of filming the adaptation in Italy was surreal for her.
And although she shares she’s yet to experience this kind of deep love, we’re sure she nails the role to perfection.
